PROJECT OVERVIEW

Every smile and case, especially if complex and involving your front teeth, a single implant or a full mouth will require planning. It's like building a house, you want to assess the foundations, do investigations, then you can get an Artitect's blueprint, a 3D model to plan your build, then it comes down to engineering and the techniques you use.

Making teeth is not dissimilar at all. It involves using traditional principles, combining classical manufacturing techniques with modern technology and manufacturing workflows. So below is a brief look into what that looks like.

If it's your front teeth, you would the aesthetics of your smile is in harmony with your facial features. It can't be wonky, tilted or too proclined and definitely not too wide or long. So how do we figure out the small details?

How do we know that you have enough natural bone for an implant? How do we know where to put the implant? At what angle, how long should the implant be? Are there any important nerves or anatomical structures to avoid?

And then the veneers/crowns/dentures/bridges.. how do you design them? How are they made? Are they like F1 cars which are bespokely designed and tested or like commercial cars with standardised parts?

All the questions above goes through our minds when we are building some new prosthetic teeth for you but also we have these questions to ensure we can select the correct size and model of implant that is best for you to get the best outcomes. We use digital CT scans and implant planning softwares to see if the implant is going to be near important anatomical structures, or perhaps to see if you need bone grafting procedures.

We as the clinical team act as the Manager of your team. We work with dental lab technicians who make the prosthesis and we partner very closely with top industry manufacturers and digital companies in order to make that one crown or veneer as perfect as possible.

We start off with the design of how we want your teeth to look like. Below you can see a patient who has toothwear. We took a photo of his face and then a 3D scan of his mouth. We could merge them together in our AI Smile Design software called Smilecloud. Here we can design the shapes of the teeth we want in a 3D manner. This allows us to give you an insight and control on how you want your teeth and smile to look. If you want more tooth showing, we can make them longer, more triangular perhaps.

From there if we were doing implants for you, we can merge all of the above to your bone scan (CT scan) and on the computer simulate where we want the implant to go and at what angle - based on the shape of the new tooth we designed earlier. This lets us know where the implant should be and the size we should choose and if you have enough bone.

In complex cases we can then design and print a stent for Prof Shahdad, based on the above plan so he knows where to place your implant.

Our partners such as Straumann or our lab technicians have the latest designing softwares, 3D printers and machines that mill most materials to precisely manufacture your crown/bridge/denture or even a veneer to our computer design.

This is now the future of modern dentistry and we are combining the knowledge and skills we mastered during the traditional manufacturing concepts with the current technology. We have been using the current technology for over 15 years as a team - evolving with each new technology.

There is more information we can get at quicker speeds. Instead of taking moulds, we can now take a 3D scan - just like you would with your iPhone. We can print crowns, like you would print your word document. We can get a milling machine to drill a disc of zirconia or metal to make your tooth.

The world is our oyster and it allows us to overcome a lot of past uncertainties, makes things much more streamlined, efficient and gives us opportunites to edit designs which was difficult before.
